How can this apply to me
The same applies to life and how we spend it. We spend 80% of our time doing things that aren’t productive like hanging out with people we don’t even like, or watch a whole series of Netflix over an entire weekend or spend the remainder of our time checking Facebook updates and status’s that normally have no relevance to our life. We spend more time on apps these days that we actually care to admit. We need to spend more of our time that actually brings results like learning, creating new ideas, getting creative and taking some action on the goals we want to achieve.
So how do I use the 80/20 rule in my every day life. Well once such good example I found was the amount of friends I had. Without sounding smug well a few years ago I had many friends and tried to divide my time equally with everyone as much as I could. My social life was always constant. However, I wasn’t achieving the real goals that made me happy. So one day after sitting down with a hangover I decided okay how many actually friends bring you happiness, great experiences and were genuinely interested in my life. Needless to say I counted only a handful. So I decided to dedicate my time to those few people instead and that freed up so much of my time. I was able to use that free time to learn and develop myself, read, go to the gym on a regular basis and focus on a lot of my own long-term goals
